Christmas came early for SCG Sharing the Dream scholars

Aside from the cold breeze, SCG Sharing the Dream scholars felt the spirit of Christmas early as they were treated to an afternoon of surprises.

A total of 300 SCG scholars from Taguig, Manila, Batangas and Bulacan received early Christmas presents as SCG, in partnership with the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP), organized a four-day visit to select SM department stores where the students can buy new pairs of school shoes. Each student was given P1,000 to purchase the shoes that they want and was a part of school supply package every scholar receive together with financial support.

“In addition to the financial support that we give our scholars, we at SCG believe that it is also important to boost each scholar’s confidence, make them realize their self-worth and help build up their character. We make sure to organize seminars or even simple activities such as this shoe-buying day for the students to engage together every once in a while,” SCG Sharing the Dream Program Chairman Janalynne Jarillas shares.

The SCG Sharing the Dream scholars from each city were gathered together for the buying day. SCG volunteers, the PBSP team, teachers and mall staff were present to accompany and assist the students as they strolled around the department store with their peers to look for school shoes and casual kicks. Scholars’ smiles extended from ear to ear as they find their dream pairs and express excitement to use the new shoes in the next school day.

The SCG Sharing the Dream program is a holistic learning opportunity for students. SCG conducts various personality and character development activities such as life skills workshops to complement the scholars’ academic learning, responsibilities and needs. SCG hopes to hone not only academically excellent students but also future leaders who are ready to conquer life.

The shoe buying day may be an ordinary activity to some but for the SCG scholars, these shoes are a reminder that there are people who are willing to support them as they continue to walk toward their dreams.
